Below are some of the basic functions of Outlook 2013.

To Navigate the different Hubs in Outlook, click the Hub name on the Navigation Bar.
  • The Mail Hub is where you can view, read, and send email.
  • The Calendar Hub is where you can see your appointments and meetings, as well as the different calendar views.
  • The People Hub is the default view for your contacts.
  • The Task Hub contains action items, activities, or a project that is assigned to you and must be completed within a certain time frame. You can assign a task to yourself or to other people, and other people can assign a task to you.
  • The Ellipsis (three dots) on the Navigation Bar allow you to change Navigation options, view notes and folders, and create shortcuts.

To access the Backstage View, click the File tab. The Backstage View is used to configure account settings and options, set up Out of Office replies, clean up your Mailbox, manage Rules and Alerts, as well as various other options.

In the Instant Search field, type the name or words you want to search. Outlook returns a list with your search criteria hightlighted in yellow. When you find what you are looking for, double click to open the email or view it in the Reading Pane. To close Search click the "X" in the Search Box.

To perform a Calendar Search, select the Calendar hub, enter your Search criteria in the search field in the upper portion of the Calendar window. All events realted to your search criteria appear in a list. Double-click on any of the search results to access the appointment or meeting where you can make adjustments if necessary.

To Search contacts from the Mail hub, make sure you are in the Home tab and go to the Search People field in the Find group.

  • Enter the name or part of the name of the contact you want to search. Outlook returns a list of results.

To perform a Search from the People hub, make sure you are in the Home tab and go to the Search People field in the Find group.

  • Enter the name or part of the name of the contact you want to search. Outlook returns a list of results.
