Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
Spyware/Adware is software that is installed on your computer without
your knowledge in order to gather personal information about you
and your computer use. This information is used by companies to
target your computer and send you unwanted information and advertisements.
Not only is this an invasion of privacy, it is harmful to the software
on the servers and desktop computers at Mississippi State University.
Several of these are known to cause problems when trying to use
Banner and WebCT.
Some characteristics of spyware/adware are browser pop-ups, noticeable
slowness and sluggishness of your computer, search page hijacking,
and large portions of your hard disk space being consumed.
ITS recommends installing and using the spyware/adware removal
tool "Spybot-S&D".
There are many spyware/adware - removal tools on the internet, but
Spybot is the only one that is currently free to use on University
computers.

System requirements for Windows:
These are the standard minimal system requirements for installling
a Windows program.
- Windows 98 on Pentium 133 or higher with 48MB of RAM
- Windows NT on Pentium 133 or higher with 64MB of RAM
- Windows 2000 on Pentium 200 or higher with 128MB of RAM
- Windows XP on Pentium 300 or higher with 128MB of RAM
- 60MB of free disk space
Spybot-S&D is a Windows application. Similar problems do
not usually occur on MacIntosh or Unix platforms.
