Multiple Email Accounts

Faculty and staff may have a email accounts on RA and on numerous departmental servers encounter the problem of having to keep track of email in multiple accounts. The simple way to work around this problem is to have all your mail forwarded to one account.

Forwarding your email through the onCampus portal (88 KB PDF)

The way you can forward mail from your RA account to any other e-mail account you might have is:

  1. Login into your ra account.
  2. At the % prompt, type 'pico .forward'. A blank file will open up.
  3. Type the e-mail address of the account you want your mail forwarded to. (e.g. johndoe@erc.msstate.edu)
  4. Hit 'Control-X'
  5. Type 'y' for yes, when it asks you if you want to save changes.
  6. Hit 'enter' when it prompts you for the filename.

Now all your mail will be forwarded to the e-mail account you specified. You will no longer be reading any of your mail in your RA account, since all of it will now show up in your other email account.

If you want to disable e-mail forwarding, just delete the .forward file:

  1. Type 'rm .forward' at your % prompt.

NOTE: Make sure that you do not create the .forward file in the email account that you are forwarding all of your e-mail to. Create it in the account that you are forwarding.
