GroupWise 6.5 Client Factsheets
Novell® GroupWise®
features electronic mail,
scheduling, task management, and Document
Mangement all in one integrated application version.
The most significant new features will be a new user
interface, enhancements using the address book, junk
mail handling, and calendar enhancements.
Novell® GroupWise®
allows you to insert a signature or tag-line at the end of items
you send. For example, you can have GroupWise automatically
list your name, phone number, and email address at the bottom
of every item you send. This factsheet will walk you through
the step-by-step process for adding a signature.
You can create, edit, save,
and rename multiple address books for your personal use,
as well as share these address books with other users. You
can add and delete names and address information for any
contact (person, company, or resource) in your personal
address books. You can also create your own information
properties (fields). This handout will walk you through
the step-by-step instructions on creating a new Address
Book.
Novell® GroupWise®
lets you quickly locate the text and items in any folder
and/or library that you have access to in GroupWise. Your
search may be simple or complex. This factsheet will walk
you through the step-by-step process for finding an item.
Proxy is a useful feature
for those who manage the personal Calendars and Mailboxes
of other users and resources. A proxy can receive access
to some of the items in another person’s Mailbox and
be notified of that person’s appointments if access
has been granted to them.
Calendar
Overview (119 KB)
In GroupWise 6.5, your Calendar can help organize your time
and work. This document provides a basic overview of the
Calendar.
GroupWise 6.5 has a Junk
Mail Handling feature that allows users to decide what to
do with unwanted Internet e-mail that is sent to their GroupWise
e-mail address. There are options to either “block”
or “junk” unwanted e-mail messages.
In GroupWise 6.5, your Calendar
can help organize your time and work. In Multi-User view,
you can view the schedules of several people or resources
side-by-side. The Multi-User feature is helpful for management
and tracking of people as well as scheduling meetings. This
document will describe the process of multi-user calendars
and how to create additional Multi-User buttons.
Rules in GroupWise 6.5 can
be defined by a user to perform various actions automatically.
For example, rules can file incoming messages into a folder,
automatically accept appointments, send an out-of-town or
vacation message to those who email while you are out, or
automatically forward items to other users. A rule is comprised
of an action that is performed when an item meets certain
conditions. Rules are a very powerful feature of GroupWise
6.5 that can help users manage their account items. This
factsheet will discuss basic concepts relating to GroupWise
6.5 rules.
GroupWise 6.5 rules can be configured to accomplish
a wide range of tasks by proper use of conditions. There are three
parts to a condition: the Field Type, the Operator, and the Conditional
Value (Operand). This supplemental document will describe many
of the conditions that are available and their use. This document
is also a refernce when creating complex rules.
In GroupWise 6.5, mailboxes
and folders can contain many items. Filters are an easy way
to find the item that you need quickly. For example, you can
create a filter that shows only items from a specific person
or specific date. Filtering does not delete or remove items
from your Mailbox. Rather, filters display the items you specify
and temporarily hides the other items. This document will
describe the process of using filters.
Vacation
Rule (186 KB)
If you are planning to be away from your computer for an extended
period of time, people that send you messages and appointments
may not understand why you are not replying to them. This document
will show you how to set up a rule that will inform senders that
you are on vacation or away and will forward your messages and
appointments to another email address.
Sorting
Subfolders (87 KB)
In GroupWise, Folders and Subfolders
are used to store and organize items. For example, items that
are related to a particular task or subject can be grouped into
these folders. This document provides step-by-step instructions
on how to sort Subfolders.
Creating
a Shared Folder (242 KB)
A shared folder is like any
other folder in your Cabinet, except other people have access
to the folder and it appears in their Cabinets. You can create
shared folders or share existing personal folders in your
Cabinet. You choose whom to share the folder with, and what
rights to grant each user. Then, users can post messages to
the shared folder, drag existing items into the folder, and
create discussion threads. This document describes the creating
and sharing of a GroupWise folder.
Installing
a Shared Folder (95 KB)
Shared folders are a good
way for GroupWise users to share the same information without
duplication. Shared folders can help reduce the number of
forwarded messages e-mailed by sharing the original e-mail
instead. This document provides step-by-step instructions
on how to install a shared folder that is sent to you by
another GroupWise user.
Auto-Date (187 KB)
In GroupWise 6.5, you
can schedule appointments for yourself and others by using
the Meeting and Personal Appointments feature. Auto-Date
allows you to schedule recurring appointments using one
appointment item. For example, you can schedule a weekly
meeting for 6 months. This document describes the process
of using the Auto-Date feature in the calendar using the
Meeting feature.
Plain Text and HTML Views (222 KB)
E-mail messages in
GroupWise 6.5 can be composed in either Plain Text or
HTML. E-mail messages can also be read in either Plain
Text or HTML. When an HTML e-mail message is received
and the Default Read View is set to Plain Text, the
message will appear blank until the HTML View button
is pressed. This document describes step-by-step instructions
on how to set the default compose and read views.
Novell GroupWise Messenger: Getting Started
(327 KB)
GroupWise 6.5 includes
a secure, open standards-based and policy-based instant
messaging application that allows users to communicate
in real-time, permitting faster decision making while
protecting information behind a firewall. Users can
determine personal availability, communicate and save
text conversations. This factsheet provides an overview
on getting started with the GroupWise Messenger.
Accepting
& Declining Appointments (135 KB)

in your mailbox, you can accept or decline an appointment
to let the sender know if you are available and will attend
the meeting.
The difference in meetings and appointments is that meeting invite other people and resources and appointments do not.
